Former Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar has picked up a strategic stake in the Bengaluru-based education tech startup, Unacademy, also representing as its brand ambassador.

The company declined to provide any financial details of the multilayer partnership. However, the officials stated that Tendulkar would host a series of live interactive classes accessible to everyone free of cost, the report added.

"Over the last couple of months, Sachin decided to come on board as a strategic investor and a brand ambassador for us," said Gaurav Munjal, the co-founder and CEO of Unacademy Group.

He added that the company had been in talks with the international cricketer for over seven months. "We think that having him on board will also help us achieve our mission, which is to democratise knowledge and education faster," he said.

The former Indian skipper told the publication that he would be doing interactive sessions 'very frequently'. He will also be working with Unacademy to develop a deeper content-led partnership.

With over 47, 000 teachers, the platform has a watch-time of one billion minutes a month, Munjal claimed. The company acquired Kreatryx, PrepLadder and Codechef in 2020 to encompass more avenues of learning and also launched its Graphy app for interactive stories & books.
